Ride-hailing app Bolt launched its Bolt Ladies service that enables women passengers to request car rides from women drivers only, giving female passengers more peace of mind when travelling alone.

Women passengers who request Ladies service will only connect with women drivers on the Bolt platform – their request for a ride will not be visible to male drivers. Rides on Bolt Ladies cost the same as the main Bolt category, with no surcharge for this service.

All Bolt passengers can use the “Share my ETA” function in the app to share their trip details and estimated time of arrival with friends or family. The feature allows customers to quickly and conveniently share the link to their ride with anyone in their contacts list via SMS or copy the link and paste it to their preferred messaging app. The person who received the link can monitor the passenger’s trip in real-time on the map and see the driver’s name, car model and plate number, pick-up point, destination, and estimated arrival time.

Ireoluwa Obatoki, Regional Manager at Bolt, said, “Bolt continues to look for ways to make ride-hailing safer for the women that use the platform, whether they are drivers or passengers. We have launched the Bolt Ladies service in response to our customers’ feedback that requested an option to choose to be driven by women. Additionally, in the same way that women have embraced ride-hailing as passengers, women want to participate in the ride-hailing sector as driver entrepreneurs. The new Bolt Ladies category means that more women can earn an income by driving with Bolt and women in Bangkok can choose to be driven by a woman while taking advantage of the affordable door to door transport made possible by the platform”.

Drivers must provide their identification documents when registering with Bolt, making it easy to confirm that only women drivers can access the Bolt Ladies category. Women drivers using the new Bolt service are not penalised in any way if they cancel a trip if they are expecting to collect a female passenger, and a male passenger is waiting for them at the agreed collection point.

Bolt controls the quality of the service in real-time, with constant feedback from customers, and encourages passengers to rate their experience after each order as it allows the company to address any possible issues. Passengers can contact Bolt’s customer support team 24/7 through the Bolt app.
