The Bathurst region is celebrating the lifting of travel restrictions in NSW as vaccination rates increase. Along with a bustling food and wine scene, family friendly museums and graceful historical buildings, Bathurst has a host of exciting new attractions coming this summer season:• The Victoria Hotel will be re-opening with their newly renovated beer garden and live music venue that boasts local art murals and an atmosphere that is perfect for summer afternoon drinks
• The new ‘Country Walk at Abercrombie House’ invites visitors to enjoy a walk through the heritage gardens and property of Abercrombie House
• Bathurst Wine Explorer, the monthly tour of the Bathurst region is resuming from November
• The Brett Whiteley, ‘Drawing is Everything’ exhibition at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery to open in December, showcasing one of Australia’s greatest artists’ extraordinary talent for drawing
• For the first time, an historic 6-day event, Repco Bathurst 1000, is to commence 30 November – 5 December
Bathurst Regional Council Tourism Marketing Coordinator Phoebe Rhodes said there is no doubt that it has been another unprecedented year and regional NSW has been doing it tough, but Bathurst locals and businesses have shown their resilience and are eager to welcome visitors again. With vaccination rates at over 74-91% for first and second doses respectively in the region, Bathurst is on track to re-open in the next few weeks.
“Summer is a fantastic time to visit Bathurst. It is a time of celebration with great food and company and embracing the great outdoors, which we do so well at Bathurst.
“We have plenty on offer during the summer season, including our delectable food scene, beautiful bushwalks, and the re-opening of the Bathurst Aqua Park on Chiefly Dam” Miss Rhodes said.
Bathurst Region Tourism have confirmed that with the recent excellent rains and the Chiefly Dam at 100% capacity, it has provided perfect climatic conditions for the Bathurst Aqua Park this summer.
In line with NSW health regulations, Bathurst businesses continue to practice COVID-19 safety procedures and additional hygiene practices to help keep visitors and locals safe in the region.
“We are less than three hours’ drive from Sydney and offer the best of regional Australia with real country friendliness but with every convenience of a vibrant modern city. If you want to reconnect with friends and family and revitalise after the last couple of months, then the Bathurst region is unbeatable,” Miss Rhodes said.
Bathurst Region Tourism analytics suggest many NSW residents have felt the same and are keen to escape to Bathurst, with traffic to the region’s website increased by 75%, compared to this time last year.
“I cannot think of a better place to celebrate the easing of travel restrictions than the open spaces of the Bathurst region, experiencing our natural and cultural heritage and outstanding local produce.
With forward online bookings already showing an 84% increase for the upcoming summer school holidays, this is the best time to book your Bathurst escape,” Miss Rhodes said.
