Avani Barbarons Seychelles Resort, one of the brand’s earliest properties to launch back in 2015, will be undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade. The resort will once again welcome guests in early 2023 and will relaunch as Avani+ Seychelles Barbarons Resort. The existing resort will receive a full make over with new restaurant options and a beach club, plus a brand new extension which will see a new lagoon-style swimming pool with lagoon access rooms, plus the introduction of Avani Beach Suites. The substantial refurbishment aims to reinvent the popular beach club resort with a more contemporary look and feel while staying respectful of the pristine natural environment.

Whereas the original property mixed European heritage and Creole touches, the upgraded resort will champion a minimalist style with lots of natural wood, smart lighting, and partially outdoor guest bathrooms where tropical nature and modern touches combine to spectacular effect. The picture windows in the living rooms beautifully frame the beach, with a comfortable daybed for reading, napping or daydreaming.

In addition to refurbishing the existing 124 guest rooms and suites, an additional 68 keys are being added in a completely new extension to the resort and introducing new room types. 26 Lagoon Access rooms will give guests direct access to a new lagoon-style swimming pool set just back from the beach alongside landscaped gardens, while 26 Lagoon View rooms boast vistas of the pool and ocean. The four new Avani Beach Suites, each with four keys forming a small cluster of rooms and with a private plunge pool and direct beach access, will offer extra space and privacy and will be ideal for groups of friends and families travelling together.

The resort’s extensive renovation will also include a revitalisation of its main swimming pool into an impressive infinity pool with a sunken bar and  beach decking, all surrounded by lush tropical landscaping. The addition of several restaurants will include a new all-day dining option with an al fresco terrace and live barbecue serving scrumptious breakfasts and creole and international cuisine, plus a signature beach restaurant showcasing local flavours and focusing on locally caught fish and seafood native to Seychelles. A new beach club bar with DJ and cocktails served by mixologists will also be launched.

Located on the west coast of Mahé, the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago, the property sits on the white sands of Barbarons Beach. Abutting the Indian Ocean property is the swimming-friendly Port Launay Beach, with plenty of diversions for both beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts. Seychelles International Airport near the capital city of Victoria is just 30 minutes away from the resort.

Amir Golbarg, Vice President Operations, Minor Hotels, Middle East, North Africa, Seychelles & Mauritius, commented, “We are really excited to announce this significant investment into Avani Barbarons, which will reposition the resort as a lifestyle destination in the Seychelles, with upgraded facilities including bringing a beach club and unique new room types to the island. We are confident this renewed product will be a great asset to the Avani+ portfolio when it relaunches and will be a great success in the market.”

Since the launch of the Avani+ portfolio in 2018, the collection has expanded to include Bangkok, Hua Hin and Koh Samui in Thailand as well as Luang Prabang in Laos, with more on the way. Avani+ encompasses a selection of hotels and resorts that showcase the next-level in style, design and facilities. Each Avani+ is designed to tell its own unique story so that guests will discover a little something extra, from architecture to design to location and beyond.

In addition, Avani+ introduces guests to the destination through the digital space experience for modern explorers, giving traveller’s insight into local culture, cool hotspots and travel tips about urban cities and, in some cases, off-the-beaten-track destinations.
