Let’s do more to make travel matter. At Contiki we believe that travelling sustainably and consciously should be something we all think about when we book a trip. Responsible travel means that the places we go to and the people and wildlife that inhabit those communities, will have a bright future. We know our travel agents share our passion for sustainable travel, so now we’re on the search for the first ever Contiki Cares Ambassadors that can help us make travel matter in 2020!
Contiki Cares is our commitment to protecting the communities we visit, the wildlife we interact with, and the planet we all share. Contiki Cares is part of Contiki heritage, having launched in 2008 with our founding partner the Treadright Foundation.
We have a range of included Contiki Cares experiences that travellers can engage with on trip, such as:
- The Iraq Al Amir Women’s Cooperative in Jordan, which helps local women become financially independent through learning handicraft skills and selling the goods at the cooperative
- Cope Visitor Centre in Laos, donations and proceeds from the gift shop help supply prosthetic limbs to people with mobility related disabilities caused by landmine explosions
- Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi, which rehabilitates baby elephants whose mothers have been killed through poaching
- Take 3 for the Sea in Australia, helping reduce plastic pollution into our oceans. One Contiki trip up the East Coast collected a huge 450 pieces of rubbish being collected from our beaches!
- Contiki launched a filter water bottle in 2019 as a commitment to reducing plastic while travelling. Made from 100% recycled materials, each bottle filters 100-litres of water in its lifetime to remove 99% of bacteria and parasites in water.
We’ve worked with some inspirational changemakers over the years such as Celine Cousteau and Brinkley Davies, but many of our travel agents are sustainability champions in their own right, so we want to work with them too! Four lucky agents will win the Contiki Cares trip of a lifetime, experiencing the Contiki product and seeing first hand how sustainability is at the heart of what we do. You’ll also be kitted out with the latest GoPro equipment, get trained up in how to use it and share your experience on the Contiki social channels!
