On Sunday, Antarctica Flights marked its first trip of the 2020-2021 season as the ultra-modern Qantas 787 Dreamliner took its maiden flight across the Southern Ocean to cruise above the vast white wilderness of Antarctica.

The trip provided a full day of Antarctic experiences, with a live cross to one of the Australian Antarctic-based research stations and polar expeditioners on board to talk through the extraordinary environment in view. Until now, these flights had been undertaken by 747 planes, however the aircraft’s recent retirement paved the way for the 787 Dreamliner, affording even better views from above of the rugged topography, icebergs and ice floes. The flight accommodated close to 220 passengers, and strict COVID protocols were in place to ensure the health and safety of all guests on board.

Commenting on the first trip, Antarctica Flights’ CEO Bas Bosschieter says, “We are thrilled to have had our first flight of the season take off to Antarctica yesterday, made all the more historic as it was the Qantas Dreamliner’s first voyage to the Antarctic region. Our passengers enjoyed a picture perfect day viewing the white wilderness from the air, whilst learning all about the southernmost continent from our polar experts on board. Antarctica Flights offer the ultimate one-day adventure, and we can’t wait to welcome more travellers aboard in the months to come.”

Over the next few months, Antarctica Flights will be conducting six more flights to the white continent between November and February 2021, from most capital cities. Prices start at $1,199 for an Explorer Economy Seat and range up to $7,999 for a Business Class Deluxe – for further information, please visit https://antarcticaflights.com.au/
