The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart today announces the official opening of bookings as the hotel prepares to invite its first guests to embark on an enriching journey of discovery with the arrival of Tasmania’s new luxury hotel.

Opening its doors in December 2021, The Tasman is set to bring the unique local character of Hobart to life through authentic experiences that connect its pioneering past with an unexpected contemporary culture, surrounded by Tasmania’s captivating scenery.

The impressive heritage development connects Salamanca Place with an elegant fronting on Murray Street in Hobart’s Parliament Square, a new centre for Hobart that is perfectly situated in the most enthralling part of the city, just steps from the famous Salamanca Markets, St David’s Park and the vibrant waterfront of Sullivan’s Cove.

Offering 152 unique rooms and some of Hobart’s most spectacular suites, each accommodation offering within the hotel highlights a distinct character and experience so that no stay is ever the same. Original artworks from local artists, warming fireplaces and island baths are some of the highlight features within.

“We are overjoyed to be opening bookings for The Tasman and cannot wait to unveil a truly unique hotel that has been years in the making.” Said Stephen Morahan, General Manager at The Tasman.

“We look forward to welcoming our first guests to explore the captivating character of the hotel, designed to be the perfect base for experiencing the epicurean highlights of Hobart as well as the wilderness of the island beyond. Whether travelling from near or afar, we want to create a quintessentially Tasmanian experience as much for visitors as for the locals who help make The Tasman the unique destination it is.”

A distinct architectural experience blends the site’s historical legacy with a striking modern vision at The Tasman.  Guests will have a rare opportunity to experience three eras of design within the hotel; from walking the history filled hallways of the original 1840s heritage building, admiring the understated luxury of the 1940s Art Deco building, or taking in the spectacular views of the Hobart waterfront from the new glass ensconced Pavilion building.

In an authentic reflection of the exciting local dining culture, The Tasman will host an outstanding selection of bars and signature restaurant. Peppina is a celebration of old-world hospitality and produce-focused cooking led by renowned Tasmanian chef, Massimo Mele who gives Italian inspired cuisine a local Tasmanian twist. Hidden within the deep sandstone walls of the building, Mary Mary is an intimate and sophisticated bar by cocktail extraordinaries Charlie Ainsbury of Proof & Company, set to provide an old-world drinking experience reimagined for modern times, with an inspired cocktail menu celebrating local Tasmanian ingredients.

Also open for enquiries are a diverse selection of meeting and event spaces to choose from, including The Cumulo room, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor terrace overlooking Hobart’s Salamanca Market, and the historic St David’s Park.

The Tasman will be the first Australian showcase of the Luxury Collection brand, a global network of nearly 120 unique hotels and resorts by Marriott International Inc., each an authentic expression of location inspired by the experiences that make every destination distinctive.

Marriott Bonvoy members will be able to earn and redeem points during their stay, as well as take advantage of a range of exclusive unexpected delights including food and beverage offers.
