Whether you’re the early bird starting the Christmas holidays with oysters for breakfast while watching the sunrise, the kid enjoying fish and chips in their PJs, the midnight prawn connoisseur or the last-minute Christmas Eve shopper, Sydney Fish Market’s 36-Hour Seafood Marathon is back and ready to cater to every seafood lover this Christmas.
It’s the Christmas tradition that has stood the test of time for over 20 years, giving Sydneysiders access to all the premium, local seafood and produce they need for a stunning Christmas spread.
Sydney Fish Market will welcome customers in droves this festive season, opening its doors non-stop from 5:00am on Thursday, 23 December, through to 5:00pm on Friday, 24 December. This year’s Marathon will be a special one for families with Santa Claus making an appearance.
The 36-Hour Seafood Marathon typically sees more than 100,000 visitors pass through Sydney Fish Market, with over 370 tonnes of seafood sold to eager customers. While Sydney has hit a phenomenal 90 per cent vaccination rate, health and safety precautions including indoor capacity limits, controlled queuing and QR code check-in requirements will remain in place.
Sydney Fish Market CEO, Greg Dyer, says, “After another challenging year, with people unable to see much of their loved ones, we anticipate families will be making the most of their Christmas celebrations. We’re proud to be a part of the holiday tradition for so many Sydneysiders and look forward to welcoming everyone back again safely for the 2021 Seafood Marathon. We expect visitor numbers to be high and urge customers to plan ahead by allowing extra time for arrival, shopping and celebrating.”
While Sydney Fish Market is famous for its supply of high quality, local seafood, many don’t know that the market also offers a full basket of produce, with a butcher, deli, greengrocer, bakery, and bottle shop on-site, in addition to its six famous seafood retailers. The Market is a one stop shop to purchase everything needed to celebrate this season.

For those who can’t make it to the Marathon, online ordering will still be available from most retailers.
