Arkansas’ State Parks today celebrated the dedication of refreshed and enhanced trails at Queen Wilhelmina State Park, marking a continued commitment to improving outdoor recreation access and elevating the guest experience in one of the state’s most scenic mountain destinations.
The event took place at the Queen Wilhelmina State Park Lodge and featured remarks from Deputy Director Jeff King, Secretary Shea Lewis and First Gentleman Bryan Sanders.
The updated trails have created new accommodation for mountain biking while improving trail conditions for improved viewing and exploration of the panoramic Ouachita Mountain overlooks. These enhancements provide new experiences for both longtime park visitors and first-time adventurers.
“Our work in Arkansas’ State Parks remains focused on stewardship, access, and the creation of unforgettable outdoor experiences,” said Secretary Shea Lewis. “The improvements made here at Queen Wilhelmina invite visitors to explore the mountaintop in new ways, reconnect with nature, and make lasting memories with family and friends.”
First Gentleman Bryan Sanders spoke to the importance of strengthening outdoor recreation access as part of Arkansas’ identity and quality of life.
“Outdoor recreation is at the heart of Arkansas’ identity and a key driver of our quality of life,” said First Gentleman Sanders. “Through the Natural State Initiative, we’re strengthening access to the trails and parks that help fuel local economies and make Arkansas a premier travel destination. These trail improvements at Queen Wilhelmina State Park will invite even more visitors to explore The Ouachita Mountains, strengthen regional tourism and showcase one of the state’s most iconic views from The Lover’s Leap.”
Located on the crest of Rich Mountain, Arkansas’ second-highest peak, Queen Wilhelmina State Park is known for sweeping views, unique mountain ecology and year-round visitor programs. The enhancements implemented this year are part of ongoing statewide efforts to expand recreational access and preserve natural landscapes.
