Having widened its flight network in a slow but steady expansion across Europe, one of KM Malta‘s first destinations served was Amsterdam when the airline inaugurated services in 2024.  This popular route transports travellers between Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands and the lovely Mediterranean island of Malta. Malta International Airport in Luqa, an outstanding facility, is the paragon of a well-managed airport.  It has to be; with an ever-increasing number of visitors passing through, MLA must stay on top of the organisation and coordination necessary for an optimal airport experience for arrivals and departures in this lovely country, kissed by the sun when Amsterdam is shivering in grey, sometimes even in the middle of summer.

Despite its vast size, Schiphol is a relatively manageable airport.  KM Malta passengers will find check-in a straightforward process handled by friendly staff.  Business class travellers have priority check-in at a dedicated desk before being fast-tracked through security and enjoying the facilities in the lounge.  Like the airport, the lounge is busy but not overcrowded, as seen at other airport lounges.  Once boarding began, it took place in an orderly fashion.  Large overhead bins made stowage of carry-on bags easy for everyone.  Business Class on board this A319 aircraft is configured with three seats on each side of the aisle, but the middle seat is left empty, meaning passengers seated on KM’s red leather seats have room to stretch their legs without battling for elbow room on the armrests.

One of the highlights of KM Malta’s Business Class is its outstanding meal service.  The presentation is uniquely appealing, and the food quality is very high.  Maltese cuisine is inexplicably underappreciated, if it is known at all, and the meals served on board are comparable to a high-quality lunch or dinner in a fine restaurant.  The presentation enhances the food; dishes are served on charger plates of colourful Maltese tile, adding a nice touch to the on-board dining experience.

Flight KM395 from Amsterdam on Monday, September 15, departed with a slight delay of about 15 minutes but arrived at MLA on time after giving passengers an aerial highlight tour of Alpine glaciers, Mediterranean coastlines, and dormant volcanoes. The arrival process in Malta was straightforward, with no formalities necessary for this flight within the Schengen area.

Malta has become ever more popular in recent years as a destination for travellers of every ilk looking for a satisfying holiday in a beautiful location.  Whether seeking adventure in nature, fine dining in sophisticated restaurants, quiet beaches to enjoy the sea, or cultural stimulation amid grand architecture, Malta provides all that a visitor could want in a holiday destination.  The very informative website of the Malta Tourism Authority has a wealth of information about the country’s myriad attractions.
