Being so close to Gdansk, Sopot is a must, even if it’s just for walking the promenade, getting fresh air, eating tasty Polish food, and drinking coffee.

Our schedule in Gdansk allowed us a day in Sopot, but we wish we had much more! Don’t miss it. Sopot is a popular seaside resort town in Poland, known for its beach, pier, and lively atmosphere. It can be a great stopover destination, especially when combined with nearby cities like Gdańsk and Gdynia, or it can be a relaxing destination.

  • Proximity to Gdańsk and Gdynia:

Sopot is located between Gdańsk and Gdynia, forming the Tricity (Trójmiasto) metropolitan area. This makes accessing and exploring these larger cities easy, offering a mix of historical sites, cultural attractions, and vibrant city life alongside Sopot’s coastal charm.

Sopot offers a lively and dynamic atmosphere, especially during the summer, when events, concerts, and beach parties occur.

  • Off-Season Serenity:

We visited Sopot in late March and had a great time even though it was chilly. Even outside the summer, Sopot can be a tranquil destination, offering peaceful beaches, cozy cafes, and a chance to relax and recharge.

“Sopot: where the sea breeze whispers tales of elegance and relaxation.”

Discover more about Sopot’s history at the Sopot Museum on the seafront. Then, head to the well-resourced State Art Gallery, which houses Polish art. The gallery is in the reconstructed Dom Zdrojowy (Spa House), where a natural spring bubbles up.

Entertainment attractions are plentiful in this fun-loving town—Walk Heroes of Monte Cassino Street, which stretches from the station to the pier. Discover the Crooked House and the unusual Tightrope Walker Statue along the way. Created by Polish sculptor Jerzy Kedziora, it defies gravity. Walk past the busy Plac Zdrojowy down to the famous Molo. Famed as one of Europe’s longest wooden piers, the Molo extends 1,679 feet (512 meters) into the Bay of Gdańsk. A little farther north of the Molo is the landmark Grand Hotel, which dates to 1927.

“Sopot: a town that seamlessly blends the allure of a historic resort with the vibrancy of a modern city.”
