Spread the love

Strawberry - LogoThere’s an old saying that good things come in small packages—and Strawberry, the Nordic hospitality group known for thinking big, is now proving they can feel small with just as much flair. Enter Home Hotel Baltzar—a pint-sized powerhouse of charm and character, ready to open its doors in Malmö’s beating heart by the tail end of 2025.

In a world that seems increasingly obsessed with mega-resorts and skyscraper suites, Strawberry is bucking the trend with a 45-room boutique stay that promises personality, comfort and a touch of Swedish soul. Nestled along Baltzarsgatan, this soon-to-be-launched property will be Strawberry’s smallest hotel in Sweden, though you wouldn’t know it from the ambition packed within its freshly painted walls.

A Suite Spot in the City

While the hotel itself may be compact, the top floors will host something truly grand: four 45-square-metre tower suites, offering sweeping views of Malmö’s charming rooftops. And not just any rooftops—the kind that make you want to linger over your morning brew and forget your itinerary entirely.

“This hotel goes straight to the heart,” declared Petter Stordalen, the charismatic owner of Strawberry. “It leaves you with the warm feeling of coming home.”

Coming from Stordalen—a man not known for mincing words nor dreaming small—this is no light praise.

Where Cosiness Meets Convenience

Ideally situated within walking distance of Malmö Central Station, Lilla Torg, and the verdant Slottsträdgården, the hotel has location sewn up like a well-fitted winter coat. You’ll find it flanked by a rich tapestry of boutiques, bars, and bistros, smack-bang in the middle of one of the city’s most vibrant precincts.

From spontaneous shopping sprees to café catch-ups and romantic riverside strolls, Home Hotel Baltzar is ready to be the snug sanctuary travellers didn’t know they were missing.

And yes, afternoon tea and supper are included in the room rate. A proper home away from home? You bet.

An Old Soul, Newly Polished

The building itself has been undergoing a full-scale restoration, courtesy of a partnership between Strawberry, MJN Holding, and property owner Lomma Tegelfabrik. This trio appears to know precisely what they’re doing.

General Manager Göran Ivarsson speaks with the sort of affection for the project you’d expect from a man restoring a family heirloom.

“It feels truly fantastic to breathe life into the property,” Ivarsson says. “We’ve respected the history and soul of the building while creating Malmö’s cosiest hotel.”

And given that Strawberry’s Home Hotel brand is already known for weaving local stories into its properties—every hotel an ode to its surrounds—the Baltzar iteration is poised to continue that legacy. Guests won’t just stay here; they’ll connect with Malmö’s past, present and personality in one go.

More Than a Stay—A Story

Home Hotel Baltzar will become the sixth Strawberry property in Malmö, rounding out an already impressive portfolio. But rather than playing the numbers game, the brand is doubling down on experience, character and—dare we say it—cosiness. After all, this isn’t just another hotel chain rollout.

This is hospitality with a heart. And cinnamon buns. Probably a fair few candles, too.

Johan Tegnér, CEO of Lomma Tegelfabrik, summed it up with quiet pride:

“We’re looking forward to the opening of a fantastic hotel that will be a strong addition to central Malmö.”

With just 45 rooms, it’s a small addition—yes, but one that’s shaping up to cast a long shadow in the Swedish boutique hotel scene.

So as Christmas 2025 draws near and the streets of Malmö hum with fairy lights and holiday bustle, there’ll be a new calm corner on Baltzarsgatan—offering hot tea, hearty suppers, and tower-top dreams above the rooftops.

Because sometimes, the smallest places hold the biggest welcome.
