Surfers Paradise BeachSeoul-based Maeil Broadcasting Network’s (MBN) dating reality show ‘Love After Divorce: Season 7’ began filming on the Gold Coast at the weekend, with the city set to be a romantic haven for ten divorced men and women seeking true love.

Scheduled to air in the second half of 2025, the popular dating reality show attracts 23 million viewers in Korea – over 45 per cent of the population.

The decision to film the dating program in Queensland follows a collaboration between Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), Tourism Australia (TA), Experience Gold Coast (EGC) and Korean Air (KE). Seven to eight episodes of the 12-episode season will be filmed entirely in Queensland, also including Brisbane.

It follows record levels of Korean tourism to Queensland, as the latest data from TEQ shows 77,000 Koreans came to Queensland in 2024 – up 81.9 per cent over the past three years.

It is only the second time the show has been shot in an international location, with Season 4 being filmed in the US and Mexico in 2023, and will be available to watch on Netflix, MBN’s main TV channel in Korea as well as various streaming platforms such as TVING, Wavve, Watcha, and Coupang Play.

TEQ and TA, in conjunction with Korean Air, plan to entice more visitors to Queensland after it broadcasts by collaborating with a consortium of seven Korean trade partners who specialise in promoting outbound romantic destinations as well as online travel agency (OTA) partners. The trade activity is expected to commence once the first episode of the reality series goes to air.

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell, said: “Hosting ‘Love After Divorce: Season 7’ on the Gold Coast is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Queensland’s unique appeal to a vast Korean audience. Visitors from Korea contributed $359.2m to the state economy in overnight visitor expenditure last year, and we anticipate that this exposure will further enhance our reputation as a premier destination for romance and adventure.”

Craig Davidson, CEO at Tourism and Events Queensland, commented: “Queensland has endless romantic destinations, from our culturally rich cities and island resorts scattered all along the state’s coastline, through to our boutique spas and hideaways throughout Queensland’s interior.

“We anticipate that this broadcast will generate over $140 million in PR value and contribute to establishing Queensland as a romantic destination for Korean couples.”

Phillipa Harrison, Managing Director of Tourism Australia, said: “Screen tourism is a great way to showcase destinations and it is something we are increasingly looking to leverage to highlight parts of Australia into key markets around the world. The popular South Korean entertainment program ‘Love After Divorce’ will feature the best of what the Gold Coast has to offer, from its natural beauty to high end resorts and world class restaurants.

“South Korea is a growing inbound international market for Australia with travellers arriving in record numbers and featuring our country in market in different ways will, like this popular program, encourage even more South Korean travellers to plan and book an Australian holiday.”

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn, said: “We’re excited to welcome ‘Love after Divorce’ to film here on the Gold Coast. It’s a testament to our city’s growing appeal as a destination of choice for international film and television producers.

“As our fourth largest international source market, we know South Koreans love the Gold Coast and the filming of this hugely popular reality show here will only serve to showcase our city to an even broader audience in South Korea.  Visitors continue to be attracted by our beaches, hinterland, warm tropical climate and natural wildlife, the perfect romantic destination and backdrop for the program.”
