While Burning Man ignites Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for one unforgettable week each August, its creative spirit lives on year-round. Across the Silver State, larger-than-life artworks, immersive installations, and a culture of self-expression continues to inspire. From desert sculptures to community-driven creativity, Nevada celebrates the essence of Burning Man every day, as a destination where art, imagination, stories and connection thrive far beyond the playa.

Elko’s unexpected art scene
Despite being home to only about 20,000 residents, this community prioritises the arts, boasting its own orchestra, five independent theater companies, and a smattering of galleries strung through downtown. It’s the heart of cowboy country, yet Elko’s public art scene is thriving. From dozens of larger-than-life cowboy boots to more than 100 vibrant murals, public art has breathed new life into this high desert town.
Boot Camp, Elko is a creative proliferation across town, with almost 50 colour cowboy boots positioned around town. 36 artists were commissioned to paint the boots, each six feet tall, to share Elko’s rich legacy.
Murals without Borders, Elko was a project commissioned in 2019 to celebrate the town’s centenary and revitalise older buildings. Today, over 100 murals can be viewed, involving both local and celebrated global artists in the project, depicting everything from whimsical characters, Native American imagery, and cowboy scenes – all a slice of local Nevada life.
