Women in Indian Cinema: A Home for our Desires
In collaboration with curators Seema Hari and Priyanka Sen, Eaton HK presents a special screening of two Indian films, A Place of Our Own and My Mother’s Girlfriend, both of which offer deeply personal and evocative narratives on love, identity, and resilience. Arun Fulara’s My Mother’s Girlfriend (2021), a Marathi-language short film, follows Renuka and Sadiya, two working-class women in love, as they celebrate Renuka’s birthday. Their joy is palpable as they enjoy a carefree day together, but as night falls and they return home, the presence of Renuka’s son, Mangesh, introduces an unspoken tension—an exploration of secrecy, acceptance, and the intricate balance between personal freedom and societal expectations.
Ektara Collective’s A Place of Our Own (2022), a Hindi-language feature, shifts the focus to Laila and Roshni, two trans women searching for a home after being evicted from their rented apartment. Their struggle to find a place of belonging mirrors the broader social forces that continue to push them to the margins. Yet, as they navigate rejection and discrimination, their journey also becomes one of quiet defiance, unexpected friendships, and the redefinition of what it truly means to have a home.

Art Exhibition: The Selected Works of Elizabeth Kezia Widjaja
Running from 7 to 31 March at LG Food Hall, Eaton HK, the selected works of Elizabeth Kezia Widjaja presents a striking collection of photography that blurs the boundaries between fashion, technology, and identity. An Indonesian-born interdisciplinary artist and photographer, Widjaja is known for her innovative use of digital reconstruction and her thought-provoking commentary on modern aesthetics.
Her featured works include Meet Up at the London Bridge, a fashion editorial composed of digitally reconstructed panoramic shots, inviting audiences to experience the piece both visually and interactively through an accompanying WhatsApp chat format. Instant Beauty Mask Technology critically examines the intersection of beauty and technology in an era where transformation is instant, questioning the commodification of self-worth in a digital age.
