Award-winning Creative Director and Designer, George Gorrow (previously Ksubi Co-Founder and Creator of The Slow in Bali) and his wife, Cisco Tschurtschenthaler have announced a launch date for their ‘70s inspired surf club hotel in NSW’s Crescent Head; SEA SEA Hotel. The 25-room boutique lifestyle is now open.
Sea Sea Hotel, located at 30-34 Pacific St, Crescent Head, is more than just a place to stay; it’s a cultural hub where guests can immerse themselves in the local surf culture, hospitality, art, and music. The hotel boasts a communal surf club, a hi-fi audio lounge for live music, and art exhibitions that showcase local and international talent. With its boutique accommodation, Sea Sea Hotel offers a serene escape with a vibrant twist, making it the perfect base for exploring Crescent Head and its surroundings.
For design, the 25 rooms will offer an acute sensitivity to textures and an irreverence for tradition. ‘70s surf inspired interiors feature throughout, with artisan-produced furniture and crafts juxtaposing audacious art and progressive thinking. The design plays with an abundance of natural textures, with the idea to make you feel immersed in your surroundings.
Guests can select from Studios, Suites, & a Two-Bedroom Suite, or a Villa and Studio sold together, complete with a private pool and gardens, a separate lounge room and kitchen and three bathrooms. Each room will feature world class mini bars, and 24-hour Sea Sea TV & Radio channels curated by Wesley Herron of Reverberation Radio (LA). The mixes will span decades, cultures, and countries, inspiring listeners to discover music that is intertwined, revolving, and relative.
The Club House features a surf and souvenir shop, The Surf Club Gallery with seasonal photography- focused exhibitions, a hi-fi audio lounge with music curated live from the resident record selector, two fireplaces, a bar and restaurant, and a 90sm culturally curated project space and games room.
Sea Sea Hotel will also have a revolving program of performances, and exhibitions, to keep you inspired and entertained while you unwind. The hotel is home to some of the Gorrow’s personal collection of works from Australia and international artists, both emerging and established.
The establishment of the hotel focused on renovating and revamping the existing building, keeping it single level. The style of the space is barefoot luxury, with the aim to lower their footprint. A key aspect of the design is the gardens, with a large native landscape program. The outdoor area includes a large heated pool, an outdoor fireplace, sauna and ice baths.
The Sea Sea project has united George Gorrow’s artistic network who have collaborated specifically on unique homewares, amenities, scents, surfboards, music, objects, art and sculptures throughout the hotel.
The Bar & Restaurant features an innovated food and beverage concept, partnering with hospitality industry legends. The Sea Sea Kitchen by Daniel Medcalf (Co-owner and Operator of No. 35 Kitchen & Bar, previously Icebergs Dining Room and Bar) will feature “a distinctly Crescent inspired menu, with a Macleay Valley theme running throughout. Its local produce brought together with plenty of care to showcase the best of what the overflowing Macleay Valley food bowl has to offer.”, states Medcalf.
For beverages, Gorrow has collaborated with P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants Co-Founder, Mike Bennie to develop their own wine for the hotel, Zamiang Natural Wines. The Sea Sea Hotel bar and mini bars have also been designed by esteemed mixologist Antonello Arzedi (previously Scout London Sydney, Icebergs Dining Room and Bar).
The location of Sea Sea Hotel and spirit of the coast transcends the typical, offering guests a unique vantage point on what makes this place truly special. With a nod to the surf culture of the ‘70s and a pledge to modern eco-luxury, the hotel is a guide to uncovering the hidden gems of Crescent Head, from its renowned surf spots to the tranquil beauty of its landscapes.
“Crescent Head still feels like that place you visited as a child, it still feels so pure,” says George Gorrow, Founder. “I love surfing, as does my wife, the waves here are fun waves to surf and the area offers quite a bit of diversity so it caters for everyone. If you don’t have a board you can try some of our rental fleet boards by Wild Things Gallery.”
Renowned for its crystal-clear waters, consistent breaks, and rich surfing heritage, Crescent Head and the surrounding areas offer a wide variety of surf spots that cater to everyone—from long boarders and funboard enthusiasts, to beginners. If guests don’t have a board, Sea Sea has collaborated with Wild Things Gallery to offer rental fleet boards from Gato Heroi, Dead Kooks, BMT – Alex Knost, Neal Purchase Jr, Creme, and more.
Sea Sea Hotel is a 360-experience, offering guests moments filled with adventure, relaxation, and cultural enrichment. Gorrow further adds, “A hotel for me is place, not just a bed you use to sleep in while visiting a town. The hotel can be a key experience. Something that allows you to deep dive into the surrounding local culture. We are trying to do this at Sea Sea.”
