Looking for a different kind of seaside escape? Done the east coast? Then book a room in Broome to discover why those in the know say the northwest is best, with Broome one of the top trending destinations.
When to go?
May to October is the most popular time to visit Broome thanks to a milder climate, cooler nights and out-of-this-world sunsets, while summer time brings a more tropical vibe – and refreshing downpours.
For several nights every month between March and November visitors can experience the natural phenomenon Staircase to the Moon, when a full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay. Grab a spot at the Roebuck Bay lookout or watch it all happen from the Town Beach precinct after grabbing a tasty local bite at the Staircase to the Moon Markets.
Every August, Broome puts its best foot forward for the Shinju Matsuri Festival, a two-week celebration of the region’s famous pearl industry, incorporating lively float parades, music and dance performances, food stalls, art installations and community events.
What to do?
No trip to Broome is complete without spending a day – or many – at glorious (and multiple award-winning) Cable Beach, a 22-kilometre stretch of soft white sand and crystal clear water perfect for cooling off with a dip, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding or more energetic activities such as zipping along the coast on a jet-ski…or rid, taking a dolphin eco-cruise, or riding a camel into the sunset.
Another favourite is Broome’s iconic outdoor movie theatre, the oldest in the world, which featured its first flick back in 1906. Relaxing in a deck chair in the historic open-air picture garden is a must for any Broome stay.
Day trip activities include adventure cruises to explore ancient dinosaur tracks, secluded swimming bays, or the world-famous Horizontal Falls, which can be experienced by boat or via a spectacular scenic flight.
Where to stay?
Oaks Cable Beach Resort is a tranquil oasis amidst tropical gardens just moments from the waters of Cable Beach and an easy stroll from Broome’s town centre.
