Stella, Capella Bangkok’s elegant cocktail salon perched on the edge of the meandering Chao Phraya River, invites cocktail connoisseurs to immerse themselves in the long-forgotten stories and charms of Bangkok’s neighborhoods. Retelling old-time tales through a contemporary lens, Capella Bangkok’s Beverage Manager Roberto Castro Rodriguez introduces “The Journey of Old Siam.” This new cocktail adventure guides drinkers through the historical epochs and cultural landmarks of Bangkok, offering inviting sips that serve as both a time capsule and a place transporter.
Wedged between the majestic Chao Phraya River and the storied Charoenkrung Road, Capella Bangkok has long drawn inspiration from its prime location to immerse guests in the tranquil beauty of its natural setting and the ancient tales that swirl through the district’s historic streets. Aiming to redefine the art of mixology in this corner of town, Rodriguez has embarked on a vibrant journey through the bustling streets and serene waterways of the city to absorb the nuances, flavours, and stories the Thai capital has to offer.
“It’s my first time in Bangkok and I’ve fallen in love with the city already”, says Rodriguez. “The more I explore its streets, the more I become mesmerised by its stories, people and flavours. This journey has become my inspiration for creating a new cocktail menu in which each drink encapsulates the heart and soul of Bangkok’s different neighbourhoods.”
Stella’s refreshed cocktail menu offers an immersive experience, intricately tying each drink and its presentation closely to the history and character of various Bangkok districts. Incorporating materials such as concrete, ceramic, and other historical references into drinking vessels, each cocktail narrates a story not just through its flavours, but also through its presentation, designed to reflect the historical and cultural landmarks of Bangkok.
The menu takes guests on a journey through the intriguing narratives of Bangkok’s diverse districts. An evening could start with the 1861, a signature drink that commemorates the year in which the Charoenkrung Road finished its construction and rang in Bangkok’s modern transformation. Other signatures include the Silver Screen, which pays tribute to the Sala Chalermthai Royal Theater, an emblem of modern Thai cinema in the Phra Nakhon district, or the Bitter Sweet, a concoction representing the Bang Rak district and its symbolic meaning as a village of love and heartbreak.
“We’re excited to introduce this all-new cocktail menu that rings in a new chapter for Stella,” says Giovanni Palmaccio, Capella Bangkok’s Hotel Manager “Roberto and his team have been working hard to create this sensory journey into Bangkok’s history, which will be just one of the exciting new elements that they will introduce at this beautiful cocktail bar in the coming months.”
