“The full Kumbh Mela is India’s largest religious gathering and takes place only once every 12 years,” said Monika Sundem, CEO of Adventure Life. “Hindu devotees from across the country make the pilgrimage to attend the event, which lasts for 40 days between January and March, and travelers can get an up-close view as it unfolds. Combined with visits to several other iconic sights, including the Taj Mahal, this journey makes for an unforgettable adventure.”

The tour begins in Delhi, and visits Agra, the “Pink City” of Jaipur and Varanasi before culminating at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

On walks, drives, and rickshaw and boat rides, explore the Jama Masjid mosque, narrow alleys and 350-year-old markets of Old Delhi, Humayun’s Tomb and the ceremonial Rajpath in New Delhi, the white marble Taj Mahal in Agra, the Amber Fort and City Palace in Jaipur, and the temples, holy ponds and ghats (steps) of Varanasi. Along the way, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in a café run by survivors of acid attacks, savor culinary delights like samosa kachori, kulfi and lassi, and observe artisans like silversmiths and bangle makers at work.

Finally, arrive at Prayagraj for the spectacle of the Kumbh Mela. This Hindu pilgrimage brings together millions of people who plunge themselves in the Ganges River to wash away sins and purify their body, mind and soul.

With unparallelled access, walk among the processions of pilgrims or take a more tranquil boat ride to communal bathing sites and the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. Also, witness sparkling aarti (prayer) ceremonies, see marigold-laden spiritual leaders and their disciples plunge in the water, and listen to spellbinding stories by sadhus and philosophers.

Starts at $5,463 per person based on double occupancy, with departures available in January, February and March 2025.
