FBB became a member of the aviation initiative aireg (Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V.) on 1 June 2024.

As an important air traffic hub, BER airport has a special responsibility towards society, climate and the environment. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) has committed itself to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 65% by 2030 compared to 2010 and to be CO₂-neutral by 2045 at the latest. The decarbonization of its energy supply with electricity and heat as well as the conversion of ground mobility to alternative options are important measures for future-oriented airport operations.

FBB is committed to reducing emissions beyond its direct responsibility. The company is working with its partners on measures to reduce emissions and is also providing infrastructure for this purpose. This includes the usage of SAF and the expansion of e-mobility.

Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “By joining the aireg initiative, we are strengthening our commitment to Sustainable Aviation Fuels and sending a strong signal for the sustainable and more climate-friendly future of aviation in Berlin and Brandenburg. Through the new alliance with aireg, we want to work together with industry, business and science to drive forward the development and use of sustainable fuels in aviation.”

Melanie Form, Managing Director and member of the aireg Board of Directors: “In order to make German air traffic more sustainable and competitive, aireg is committed to the local use of SAF at German airports. We are therefore delighted to welcome FBB as a new member. Together we are committed to SAF and the future of aviation. Ready for take-off with SAF at BER Airport.”
