Turkish Airlines LogoIn a bold move signifying a significant shift in the aviation industry, Turkish Airlines has announced a historic purchase of 220 Airbus aircraft, signalling Türkiye’s ascent as a global aviation powerhouse. This groundbreaking order, consisting of 150 state-of-the-art A321s and 70 cutting-edge A350 widebody aircraft, catapults Turkish Airlines into a new era of operational excellence and environmental stewardship.

“More than just an expansion, this landmark order epitomizes our commitment to innovation and sustainable future,” remarked Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines. “Integrating these advanced Airbus models into our fleet not only elevates our operational capacity but also significantly aligns with our environmental aspirations. This investment marks a pivotal chapter in Türkiye’s aviation narrative.”

The latest order includes 50 A350-900s, 15 A350-1000s, and 5 A350F freighters, following previous acquisitions of 14 A350-900s earlier in 2023. This acquisition raises Turkish Airlines’ total Airbus order to an impressive 504 aircraft, of which 212 have already been delivered.

Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, commended the deal, stating, “This order of next-generation aircraft reflects Turkish Airlines’ visionary approach. The A350-900, A350-1000, A350F, and A321 will be flagships in their respective categories, driving the airline’s sustainable and strategic growth. These aircraft offer enhanced range, reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions, and unparalleled cabin comfort.”

The A321neo, the largest model in Airbus’ A320neo Family, is celebrated for its exceptional range and performance. Equipped with new-generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo boasts a remarkable 50% noise reduction and over 20% savings in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to its predecessors.

Globally, the A321neo has attracted over 5,600 orders from over 100 customers, underscoring its popularity and efficiency.

The A350, renowned as the most modern and efficient widebody aircraft, is a leader in the 300-410 seater category. Capable of operating efficiently across a spectrum of routes, from short to ultra-long-haul up to 9,700nm, the A350’s innovative design features state-of-the-art technologies and materials. These advancements yield a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency, operating costs, CO₂ emissions, and a 50% noise reduction compared to previous-generation competitor aircraft.

The A350 Family, comprising the A350-900 and the longer A350-1000, offers passengers an unparalleled experience with its spacious design, wide seats, high ceilings, and inviting ambient lighting. As of November 2023, the A350 Family has secured 1,072 orders from 57 leading customers worldwide.

The A350F, the freighter variant in the order, distinguishes itself with the largest main deck cargo door and an airframe optimized for cargo operations. Constructed with over 70% advanced materials and powered by efficient Rolls-Royce engines, the A350F delivers at least 20% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions than its closest competitor.

This significant order by Turkish Airlines propels the A350F’s order book to 50 from nine customers following its debut at the Dubai Airshow two years ago.

This strategic expansion by Turkish Airlines bolsters its position in the global aviation sector and reinforces Türkiye’s status as a burgeoning aviation hub. By modernizing its fleet with more eco-friendly and efficient aircraft, Turkish Airlines is setting a new standard in the industry, blending operational excellence with a solid commitment to environmental sustainability.

The airline’s latest move is a testament to its visionary leadership and dedication to shaping a more sustainable and innovative future in aviation. As Turkish Airlines prepares to soar into this new era, its monumental Airbus order is poised to leave an indelible mark on the skies, redefining the essence of global air travel.
