Capella Sydney has unveiled the first 26 art pieces included in its limited-release retail offering, curated by Singapore-based consultancy The Artling.
Now available to purchase online, the works are part of the newly launched Sandstones Sydney Art Collection – an evolving selection of works either displayed at the hotel and offered as editions or by the same artists whose one-of-a-kind pieces are showcased throughout the property.
Featured in the debut release are eight Australian artists working in various mediums, including Justine Roche, Nadia Culph, George Hall, Elise Cakebread, Georgia Bisley, Julee Latimer, Natsumi de Dianous and Nick Psomiadis.
Each artist involved in the collection has work currently displayed among the public and private spaces of Capella Sydney, including in the guestrooms and suites, lobby and ground-floor restaurant. Capella Sydney’s art collection, also curated by The Artling, is among one of the largest in an Australian luxury hotel, currently comprising more than 1400 pieces.
Highlights of the Sandstones Sydney Art Collection include a captivating mixed media work, titled Trousseau, by Elise Cakebread, whose textural Flotsam and Jetsam fabric wall-hangings flank the southern walls of Capella Sydney’s Farrer Place foyer. A one-off piece by Georgie Bisley, titled Golden Features, mirrors the artist’s energetic orange-hued installation, Aerial, in the entryway of Brasserie 1930.
The Australian panorama – a recurring motif at Capella Sydney – is celebrated through the collection, including by way of three sets of photographic trios: Justine Roche’s ethereal bushland captures, the striking botanical studies by Nadia Culph and Nick Psomiadis’ sun-kissed landscapes.
“The Artling team is immensely proud to share the Sandstones Sydney Art Collection with the discerning guests of Capella Sydney. The debut works spotlight Australian art, showcasing the talents of eight incredible local artists,” says Talenia Phua Gajardo, Director and Founder of The Artling.
“These pieces, carefully selected by The Artling and many gracing the walls of the hotel, add a uniquely Australian touch to the Capella experience. Now, they can adorn the homes of those who wish to own a part of this exquisite collection – a true celebration of Australian creativity.”
