The Australian Hotels Association (WA) congratulates WA Premier Mark McGowan for his extraordinary contribution to Western Australian politics, following his announcement today that he will retire from Parliament.

AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said Premier McGowan has always taken a constructive and fair approach to understanding and acting on the various issues faced by WA’s hotel, hospitality, and broader business industry.

“Premier McGowan’s contribution to public life in WA over the past 30 years is unparalleled. On behalf of WA’s hotel and hospitality industry we thank him for his commitment to the state and our over 100,000 workers.”

“The Premier’s leadership and collaboration with the AHA throughout the pandemic ensured WA’s hospitality venues were able to trade with fewer restrictions than most other jurisdictions in the world.”

“When he was Racing and Gaming Minister, Premier McGowan spearheaded reforms to WA’s liquor laws that supported the diversification and growth of WA’s hospitality industry, which continue to deliver benefits over 15 years later.”

“The AHA wishes Mark, Sarah and their family the best of wishes for the future.”

“I am confident there will be no shortage of hospitality operators happy to raise a glass and thank the outgoing Premier.”
