“The way these incidents were expertly and safely handled speaks volumes about our rigorous training, experience and commitment to excellence,” he said.

“Safety is at the heart of everything we do and we work hard to maintain high standards as proud custodians of a legacy of excellence.”

“It comes as welcome recognition that Qantas has been named the safest airline in the world,” he said.

Captain Lucas said Qantas’ staff’s excellent training and experience were on display during unscheduled landings in Azerbaijan on Christmas Eve and Greece on Tuesday.

“Our pilots, engineers, flight attendants and the other staff that support the flying operation are dedicated, experienced and professional.
The Australian and International Pilots Association says it is no surprise that Qantas has been named the safest airline in the world.

Qantas beat Air New Zealand to number one in the annual AirlineRatings.com safety rankings released on Tuesday.
