In true Hamish and Andy form, the final episode of the Hamish & Andy podcast for 2022 has seen the boys make listeners’ dreams come true and a H&A bucket list item ticked off in an Australian-first aeroplane ‘Emergency Slide Party’, in what can only be described as a next level podcast event!
Recording their final 2022 episode from the cabin of a Rex Boeing 737 passenger aeroplane, together with Rex Airlines and Melbourne Airport, the pair hosted 61 of their loyal podcast listeners, and finally realised their dream of deploying the emergency slide of a passenger aeroplane … and then sliding down… wait, what?!
The Emergency Slide Party idea was conceived in 2020 when, due to Covid, planes were grounded all around the world. So, Hamish & Andy thought it would be the perfect time to slide down a plane’s inflatable emergency slide because you could have all the fun of sliding down, without the fear.
To the everyone’s knowledge, hosting an Emergency Slide Party has never been attempted before and it was certainly a first for Hamish & Andy, Rex and Melbourne Airport. Of course, now that flights are back up and running, it took a huge amount of planning to get this idea off the ground, or rather keeping the plane on the ground, but thankfully Hamish & Andy’s Emergency Slide Party went off without a hitch!
Hamish and Andy said: “Our Emergency Slide Party is a lesson in ‘you don’t know if you don’t ask!’ We asked, and Rex said yes! It is amazing the lengths we will go to for a three second slide, but this way was a lot more fun than attempting it after an emergency landing.”
