Proudly presented by Cheer Bell International Art Association, Odyssey of Feather – Christina Tung Solo Exhibition 2022 was launched today at the Hong Kong City Hall, and will be open to the public until 25 August 2022. Displaying 55 artworks by ink artist Christina Tung, the collection will include signature pieces centered on feathers, as well as debuts of several latest creations. A preview of Tung’s upcoming showcase at this year’s Fine Art Asia, the exhibition will present a wide array of works from different years, and a must-see for fellow art connoisseurs.

Featured at the exhibition are works created across the past decade, of flowers and birds, natural landscapes as well as a range of ink creations of Tung’s signature feathers. The choice of materials such as flimsy paper, Japanese linen paper and top-grade cowhide leather brought impeccable textures and visual effects to the exhibits, providing viewers with an extraordinary art viewing experience.

As a contemporary artist, Tung’s artistic creation is vastly inspired by current events. In this exhibition, Tung can be seen attempting the atypical – painting on cowhide leather, cutting the painted artwork into multiple pieces and reassembling them into different new creations. The Miracle Series, which consist of 3 pairs of 10-feet wide wings made from 1800 pieces of trimmed leather, will surely draw crowds of astonished audience.

The process of cutting leather into pieces symbolises how people are unwillingly parted due to the pandemic, and putting them back together to form new arts, is Tung’s way to reassure that one day, people will come together again. Vibrant colours are used to create the works, with the goal to deliver hopes to their viewers, that life is full of opportunities and blessings.

An up-and-coming artist, Tung has been making considerable contribution to encourage artistic exchanges – many of her works have received international acclamation from art lovers and collectors, one of which being the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong. Her diverse artistic styles are attributed to her endeavors in multiple art genres, where she received guidance from masters of ceramics, ink art and Chinese calligraphy. Her delicate strokes and poetic concepts made her an artist-to-watch in the local ink art scene. Her enthusiasm for Taoism also introduced a coexistence of strength and gentleness in all her works, which together form a vast, boundless art world.

Story of a decade-long artistic journey told by a remarkable range of artworks

The exhibition will be showcasing Tung’s works under three themes, bringing audience on a journey behind the creation:

Revelations in life told in the form of feathers

Many of Tung’s most iconic works were centered on feathers. Whether floating in the air, or painted with vibrant colours, they all carry a hint of Tung’s revelations in life and her desire for freedom, which surely will echo the longing of people nowadays.

Spectacular viewing experience guaranteed with the introduction of innovative medium

A series of works created with new medium will be the highlight of the exhibition. After experimenting with painting on leather and winning the Salvatore Ferragamo shoe design award in 2020, Tung started introducing cowhide leather into her works. In her creations, the supple texture of leather matches perfectly with the elegance of feathers. Highlighted exhibit Miracle (1) will be making its debut, as one of 3 pairs of vibrantly painted leather wings, with a width of 10 feet each.

Tracing back to where it began, catching glimpses of the beauty of nature amongst the jungle of concrete

Many of Tung’s earlier works took inspirations from the nature such as flowers, birds and landscapes, as she searched and savored every trace of wildlife amid her day-to-day life. As the vividly painted animals and plants appeared perfectly in grace, the paintings are testimonies of Tung’s enthusiasm for life and courtesy towards nature.
