LATAM Airlines surpassed 300 million COVID-19 vaccines transported free of charge within Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. This initiative is part of LATAM’s Solidary Plane program, which makes LATAM’s passenger and cargo network available for the benefit of people and sustainability projects in South America.
“The pandemic made us think about how we could help. We decided to make ourselves available, in our role of connecting and transporting, to contribute to the communities where we operate. We have been helping to overcome the pandemic for two and a half years, and thanks to the efforts of all our employees, we have now transported more than 300 million vaccines free of charge in South America,” said Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group.
More than 1,000 patients with urgent medical needs have also been transported in South America, a figure equivalent to 25 full A320 aircraft. LATAM has also transported 2,440 organs and tissues, 3,526 health professionals to meet urgent COVID-19 needs, 17 deliveries of stem cells for blood cancer patients, and more than 1,550 tons of cargo, including medical supplies and vaccines, equivalent to 31 cargo planes.
The Solidarity Plane program considers three areas of action: health, environment, and natural disasters. Recently, the program announced alliances with more than 50 solidarity and civil society organisations in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, making available to them the expertise, infrastructure, connectivity, and speed of air transport through tickets and cargo transportation at no cost to the institutions.
