Prudential has been closely monitoring the development of coronavirus situation since the COVID-19 outbreak. We respond to market needs by introducing timely protection and measures to shelter Hong Kong residents against COVID-19 with “We Do” spirit.

Faced with the COVID-19 outbreak situation rapidly evolving, Prudential is committed to taking a step forward by enhancing the underwriting approach, to help more customers get comprehensive life, critical illness and medical protection. Here are the latest COVID-19 underwriting approach of Prudential:

  • Customers who are diagnosed with COVID-19 but not required to get hospitalised (only required home quarantine for self-isolation can apply for new policies if they have completed self-isolation at home 1, having all symptoms resolved without complications and normal bodily functions and activities resumed. The premiums of protection plan will be based on standard rates2 and the 1-month waiting period will be waived.
  • Customers who are diagnosed with COVID-19 and required to get hospitalised; or admitted to a community treatment/isolation facility:
  • Those who are admitted to general ward or community treatment/ isolation facility can apply for new policies if all symptoms have been resolved without complications, and normal bodily functions and activities are resumed 3. The 2-month waiting period will be shortened to 1 month.
  • Those who are admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU)

can apply for new policies if all symptoms have been resolved without complications, and normal bodily functions and activities are resumed 3. The 1 to 2 years waiting period will be shortened to 6 months.

Remarks:

* Underwriting decision will be made based on the presence of complications/sequelae.

* Due to the constantly changing coronavirus situation, underwriting approach may be updated from time to time.
