Harbour sailing tours unlike any other: the Australian National Maritime Museum’s 17th-century replica vessel Duyfken is set to sail for another season.
A unique and spectacular experience, cruises take in Sydney Harbour vistas aboard the tall ship Duyfken, departing from the museum in Darling Harbour, past Barangaroo, Circular Quay, Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Fort Denison and other landmarks.
Museum CEO Daryl Karp said, ‘A cruise on the Duyfken gives an immediate sense of living history. It’s remarkable to experience 400-year-old technology and to gain an idea of what was involved for people of the past attempting to traverse the globe by sea. It’s unique. It is also a wonderful way to experience Sydney Harbour.’
On board, enjoy the sea breeze with a gourmet snack box and drinks as 17th-century sailing techniques are employed by an expert crew. Hear tales of the vessel’s unique history, including merchant trade expeditions of the Dutch East India Trading Company, and learn a bit about rigging and sailing technology.
Duyfken was built by the Duyfken 1606 Replica Foundation jointly with the Maritime Museum of Western Australia and launched on 24 January 1999 in Fremantle. It joined the Australian National Maritime Museum’s fleet in 2020.
