Captain Harry’s Blue Marlin Bar is Charleston’s smallest bar with only four bar stools inside. This new bar is located inside the small space on Hutson Alley right between 39 Rue de Jean and Coast Bar and Grill. Despite the small number of barstools inside, there are tables located outside for guests to sit. The bar has canned beers, cocktails and frozen drinks along with fried shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops and crab dip!
The bar was originally located on Cumberland Street back in the 70s, then moved to John Street in the 90s and now will be back in Hutson Alley. Charleston’s smallest bar opened May 2022.

Philosophia is a recently opened Mediterranean and Greek restaurant serving dinner only in Patriots Plaza in Mount Pleasant. Started by Justin and Dimitri, the two friends grew up together on Long Island and have been inseparable since 1st grade. Once Justin ended up in Charleston for what seemed like it would be a while, Dimitri joined him and they both worked at the Mills House Hotel. In 2016, long-time McCrady’s chef de cuisine Daniel “Dano” Heinze left for Los Angeles along with McCrady’s bar manager, and now wife, Bethany Heinze. The couple has returned to the Lowcountry with an idea for a new Cannonborough/Elliotborough restaurant named Vern’s. It will be a neighborhood American bistro named after Dano’s grandfather Vernon Heinze. Dano will be the chef and operations manager, and Bethany will run the front of house and the beverage program. The local pre-packed food company is now launching its mobile food trailer after being in Charleston since 2019. Atlyss Food Co. has been operating out of the Ghost Kitchen in North Charleston and is run by Jenny Gaddy. Atlyss works with local farmers like Fire Ant Farms, Chucktown Acres and Wishbone Heritage Farms to create its prepackaged meals. Jenny says that the trailer was the next step in her vision of creating a sustainable business and will allow for new customers to find and learn about Atlyss Food Co.

Eubanks Park is undergoing renovations to promote inclusivity. This project has been long overdue as they wanted it to start three years ago. The renovations will include two playgrounds, a splash pad and a pavilion. The pavilion is planned to be named after one of the first historic black communities in Goose Creek, The Casey. The goal is to make sure that the playground is accessible for those with a variety of disabilities since not a lot of parks have this. The goal is to have the park finished by the end of the year.

Expanding the green space and passive recreational area of Riverfront Park, the Noisette Creek Pedestrian Bridge is proposed to connect the existing park to the north side of Noisette Creek. As part of the overall vision for the north end of the former Navy Base, the bridge is the first piece of infrastructure to tie the two sides of the creek together. It is the city’s goal to transform the industrial, underutilized portion of the former navy base into a bustling mixed-use development while giving the public access to the waterfront of the Cooper River. The bridge is scheduled for completion by July 2022.
