Spread the love

Have you tasted the Beauy & Blue? It’s a spiced pumpkin ale from Scenic Rim Brewery, made from famous Beaudesert Blue pumpkins (ah, the penny drops). What about the mid-strength Shazza? Or the Fat Man? That’s a Maroon Ale named in honour of Queensland (and a former State of Origin great!).

And you really need to savour the tastebud-altering Persian Fetta from Summer Land Camels, as well as Greenlee Farms’ macadamia nuts, honey from across this region of plenty, and the rainbow of local produce that has made the Scenic Rim famous for flavour.

Yes there will be Carrot Ice-cream! This delicious lick is the creation of Moffats Fresh Produce and will be available at their stand.  Quick fact: the Scenic Rim produces 600 million carrots a year and is the carrot capital of the country!

Speaking of amazing local produce, can we talk about pickles? Pickling is a thing, and it’s a good thing – it saves wastage, extends shelf life, it’s fun and it’s an age-old food craft, which means, it’s cool with the kids right now! At the Winter Harvest Festival on Saturday at Aratula there’s be some of the best pickles, relishes, jams, krauts and preserves in the world, grown locally, and made with love (and very secret recipes!).

Given the event is a regional farm gate on a platter, the best advice is clean out your esky and bring your appetite, because you won’t leave empty handed or hungry. The day-long festival showcases the farmers, producers, growers and food curators who grow for your table, and for your favourite restaurants. This is where you meet the faces behind the flavours.

You’ll also be able to learn HOW to cook it. There are some serious foodie names on the docket – Josue Lopez (Monstera Group), Ash Martin, Glen Barrett (Wild Canary), and Cameron Matthews – giving cooking demonstrations.

The WORLD-FAMOUS Tractor Pulling Competition is a show-stopping moment. The competition pits teams against a 12-tonne tractor – who will clock the fastest time and be crowned 2022 champion? Will the butchers once again triumph over the carrot farmers?  The junior event happens at 11.00am and the seniors at 2.30pm – both promise to be 1000% pure entertainment… and any teams can enter!

Fancy some fashion? The famous Kalfresh Fashions on the Field event will take place on the CARROTwalk at 1pm, with entrants vying for the crown, in outfits inspired by the region. One of Queensland’s leading fashionistas, Brooke Falvey of “What Brooke Wore”, will be judging the competition, so put your best veggie-inspired fashion foot forward and dress to impress! First prize is a $200 voucher from Scenic Rim Farm Box. (Tips and Tricks below)

There’s music all day on The Courier-Mail Stage, entertainment, great demonstrations and loads of stalls to visit.
