The COVID-19 pandemic made us realise several things, the most prominent of all being the fact that  we need to take care of our individual health as well as the health of our environment. Interestingly, June 5 is celebrated as the World Environment Day.  On that note, let us talk about how travel can impact the environment.
How travel impacts environment
Tourism has a great impact on the environment. From the mode of transport people use to travel, to the method of disposal of the waste they use — everything has a substantial impact on the environment.
For instance, choosing public transport for travel is a lot less harmful to the environment because the per capita pollution will be lesser that way. Additionally, many travel accommodations now use solar and other renewable energy sources for power generation, which is beneficial for the environment.

Environmental sustainability post-pandemic
The significance of environmental sustainability is rising each year. As our environment is deteriorating at high speed, it is getting more and more essential to look after it.
A healthy environment is a must because the lives of all the species across the world depend on the natural environment. The pandemic can perhaps be called a “blessing in disguise” because many people have realised several things over the course of the pandemic.
For instance, the pandemic highlighted how significant it is to keep the local areas clean and how badly the environment is affected by the constant toxic substances released into the air because of human activities. A little pause helped us understand how essential it is for humans to analyse our actions that directly impact the environment.

Sustainable travel becomes more urgent in the post-pandemic world
To deal with climate change and rising global temperature, it is essential to work towards preserving the environment passionately. Mo matter how ideal it might sound, but it is almost impossible to  convert the entire world economy into an eco-friendly one.
Thus, the primary option left is to adapt to sustainability. Therefore, now travellers around the world prefer to travel sustainably — that means travelling in a way that causes the least impact on the environment.
Especially, it has become more urgent to look after the environment post-pandemic. The awareness regarding sustainability is rising across countries. Thus, the travel industry should take advantage of it and promote sustainability in tourism.
FINAL WATCH: Australia’s international travel on the up
There is massive scope for increasing eco-friendliness while travelling. All in all, a little effort from both travellers and industry runners is needed. The Paris Agreement requires keeping the global temperature within the safe zone. However, if environmental sustainability is not considered, it may become very difficult for people to remedy the situation.
