The Sydney Seafood School (SSS) has a new catch! The iconic cooking school is pleased to announce the appointment of Sally Webb, who takes the helm as SSS’s new Manager.
Sally will be responsible for the School’s strategic direction, including business development and operations, and will be working closely with Sean Connolly, Sydney Fish Market’s Culinary Ambassador, on new recipe testing and class scheduling.
With more than 20 years of experience across many industries including food, hospitality, media and publishing, Sally is perfectly placed to continue the School’s success as a culinary institution for Sydneysiders and a popular tourism destination.
Sally’s extensive editorial career in travel and lifestyle magazines includes working with Vogue before joining Murdoch Books’ food division, where she published works by such acclaimed chefs as Neil Perry, Ben Shewry, and Adriano Zumbo, setting her up for success to lead the School.
Greg Dyer, CEO of Sydney Fish Market, where Sydney Seafood School is located, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sally to the Sydney Seafood School team. As a seasoned professional with a strong understanding of the industry, we’re confident she has the skills to ensure the School’s continued success. Alongside this, she is a team player and foodie at heart. We can’t wait to see what fresh flavours and ideas she brings this year.”
Sally added: “I’m passionate about seafood and cooking, so this a dream role for me. I’m especially looking forward to building an exciting program with talented guest chefs and more of the classes that Sydneysiders and visitors love.
“Since my early days in Sydney, and throughout my years working in food media and publishing, I’ve been a huge fan of the Sydney Seafood School. It was where I learned how to clean a squid, that you can do so much more than throwing another prawn on the barbie, and that the secret to the best fish pie could be croutons rather than potato on top.”
One of Sally’s first accomplishments in the role has been curating the school’s Winter series. Kicking off on the 4th of June, the series will feature an array of exciting guest chefs, including the iconic Christine Manfield, Joel Bennetts (formerly Fish Shop, Bondi) and Sean Connolly. Guests will also be able to join a special edition ‘Winter Warmers’ class, where they will learn how to master a hearty clam chowder and classic seafood pie.
“With this series, I really want to highlight seasonal seafood species and teach guests how easy it is to cook these delicious dishes at home. Although seafood can often be forgotten in the cooler months, winter is a fantastic time for seafood, and we can’t wait to introduce guests to some of our favourite winter recipes,” said Sally.
In addition to exciting Chef Masterclasses, the Winter series will also offer a variety of guest favourites that are perfect for colder weather, including Spanish Paella, Malaysian Laksa, and Singapore Chilli Crab.
