Dubai has had a significant position in the world tourism industry for years now. The country is exponentially growing its tourism attractions and thus getting thousands of international tourists every year. So, as the world tourism industry stands at the doorstep of revival, let’s look at why Dubai is so unique and what the rest of the world could learn from it.
Sheikh Ahmed tops the Forbes list of top travel and tourism leaders
It is not surprising that Sheikh Ahmed, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, has topped the Forbes Middle East’s Top 50 Travel and Tourism Leaders list.
Sheikh Ahmed’s airlines’ revenue reached US$6.7 billion in the first half of the 2021-22 fiscal year. This is astonishing considering the pandemic situation. The leaders play a crucial role in leading the nations to reconnect with the world in the journey of tourism revival.

What should the rest of the world tourism industry learn from Dubai tourism?
Despite the severe impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on world travel and tourism, Dubai still accounted for positive growth by receiving thousands of international tourists in 2021. It’s considered a safe travel destination among tourists even in the pandemic. Thus, the rest of the industry runners should look at the policies of Dubai’s tourism.

  • Clear vision: One aspect the international tourists have been most worried about in the pandemic are indecisive Covid-19 measures. Countries with frequent border closure or extra-strict policies have seen minimum international tourists. On the other hand, Dubai took decisive decisions to attract maximum tourists in the pandemic.
  • Safe Travels stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC): Dubai was one of the first cities in the world to obtain the “safe travel stamp”. Safety is of utmost priority for travellers in the pandemic. Thus, countries need to ensure that their Covid-19 guidelines are set in place to provide optimum protection to international travellers.
  • Digital adoption expansion: Undoubtedly, optimised digital adoption is the key in the mid-pandemic and post-pandemic world. As Dubai’s borders reopened for international tourism, they adopted interesting measures like electronic health passports, touchless kiosks and biometric driven check-in and passport control to enhance the airport experience for tourists.
  • High momentum in tourism investment: Dubai has done no less in investing in its tourists’ attractions, even in the pandemic. Dubai recently developed the world’s most beautiful building, called “Museum of the Future”. Developing newer tourist destinations and maintaining the old ones would help the tourism industry fetch more tourists.
