Spread the love

Horse-riding is a generations-old tradition for many Majorcans rooted in its culture and heritage. From riding excursions around the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains to riding lessons for all ages at a ranch, Majorca is the perfect destination for horse lovers. Majorca’s nature and landscape make it ideal for an unforgettable equestrian experience, whether you are visiting the island to practice the sport or simply trying something new. Visitors can even become a part of Majorcan culture by watching trotting races.
Riding Schools
The Majorcan passion for horses is reflected in the number of riding schools scattered around the island. With classes for all ages and levels, there are many towns with these academies, such as Algaida, Artà, Felanitx or Palma. For many children in Majorca, the hobby is often practised after school, so why not make the most of these specialist facilities?
Horseback excursions
Another of the equestrian activities offered on the island is horseback riding which is a great option for those who want to enjoy the diverse Majorcan countryside in a unique way. There is a wide range of possibilities for organised excursions, including those along the golden coast or around the magnificent mountainous landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana. Taking between 1 to 3 hours and accompanied by an instructor, these trips are a dream for lovers of horses.
Ranches
Ranches are the best place to practice riding in harmony with nature, within the rural landscape alongside beautiful horses, whilst learning from the best horse-riding instructors. Classes can be adapted to all needs, whether it is for the whole family with farm visits or pony rides for children, or longer horseback excursions for the more experienced rider. Algaida, Alcúdia, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar or San Servera are some of the places where you can find traditional ranches, stemming from the island’s passion for horses.
The trot
Trotting is a sport steeped in Majorca’s heritage and is a traditional horse and chariot race. These competitions are held every weekend of the year at the two racecourses located on the island in Palma: Manacor and Son Pardo. In the summer evenings, these races become a great attraction for locals and tourists alike, with outdoor dining alongside the races creating a buzzing atmosphere.
