“Firefall Season” is Here!
When all of the weather and environmental conditions are just right, visitors to Yosemite at sunset can witness the ephemeral event known as the “natural firefall”. Only lasting about 3 minutes, the illusion is created when the sun hits Horsetail Fall coming off of El Capitan. Lots of things need to line up correctly for this to happen, but, when it does, it’s a remarkable sight!
The Yosemite Mariposa County Tourism Bureau, in cooperation with Yosemite National Park, has produced a short video (see below) that covers what conditions need to be in place, the historical manmade “Firefall” and how best to view this phenomenon for yourself.
