Mary-Anne Bartlett set up Art Safari nearly 20 years ago with her first tour to Malawi. As international travel tries to get going again (despite what we hope will be short-lived glitches) Art Safari has been quick to return to Malawi and are now taking bookings for a trip to the Warm Heart in 2022. Alongside the actual trip, there is a great Virtual Malawi Tour planned for later this month too!  Find out more from Mary-Anne:
In the first years of setting up Art Safari (perhaps the first five or six!) people would ask me how this novel idea for travel was going. Since 2003, Art Safari has been a trailblazer in taking artists to paint in far-flung places, and it took huge courage, confidence and lots of determination to make the painting holidays become real. I had many people to learn from, and many who helped it happen. My first tours were in Malawi, still the best place in the world, and at that time relatively unknown.
My response to that nosey enquiry (even when times were really tough) was “Slow but sure” after a shop in Phalombe, Malawi. Now that we are coming out of Covid, I want to encourage you to come out and travel – slow but sure.
The next Art Safari to Malawi is in June 2022 (20-30 June).  We will paint at the Lake, (Blue Zebra and Mumbo Island) and along the Shire River in Liwonde National Park at Mvuu Camp.  Sketching landscapes and wildlife is a wonderful way to find your own connection to Malawi.  I’m equally thrilled to have beginners or pros in the group – we all learn so much together.
Reserve your place on the Warm Heart of Africa tour at Art Safari. You might want to have some time in Zambia too, so you would be welcome to join me for the Large Grey and Unmistakable tour in South Luangwa from 12-19 June beforehand.
Mary-Anne Bartlett will also be running a 4-day Virtual Malawi Tour online tuition class from 14 – 17 December 2021.
With art demonstrations, interaction and tales from the bush Mary-Anne will show you how she tackles Malawi’s wildlife and landscapes.  Even using photos she will show you how to make your sketches lively and loose. Learning via Zoom is highly concentrated and productive.  It allows you to delve into technique and imagination.
