Sofitel Melbourne, the iconic, much-loved luxury hotel at the Paris end of Melbourne will undergo a refurbishment of all of its 360 guestrooms and the transformation promises to bring the ‘Live the French Way’ essence to life.

Boasting Melbourne’s best vantage point for capturing the city’s skyline, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins will unveil the extent of the $15m refurbishment in March 2022, just in time for Melbourne’s festival of major events to commence.

Renowned architect I.M. Pei, who originally designed the hotel, bringing elements from The Louvre into its construction, has again influenced the approach of the rejuvenated Sofitel Melbourne interiors. The project palette brings a mixture of brand-new contemporary carpet and furniture, state of the art modern room fixtures and French inspired photography, with an understated minimalist style.

Each refurbished room boasts new beds including bed head, new furniture throughout including TV cabinet, working table and luggage rack alongside new TV’s as well as new carpet and repainted walls.

“We have created every room with its own design mood; the bed head, the unique chair or the art on the wall, everything has been created saying out loud… Let’s French It!” said General Manager Clive Scott AM. “The hotel is looking forward to welcoming guests in early 2022 to not only enjoy the new rooms, but also to live the refreshed service culture exemplifying French “Joy de Vivre,” he continued.

The interior elements of the rooms include an angled mirror and timber window shutters which follow the triangular structural framing of the building’s architecture. New joinery provides an additional homage to I.M. Pei, demonstrated in the handle detailing and fabric patterning on the bedside tables and mini bar. The play of light in the atrium is reflected in the carpets pattern of colour, light and shade in its design.

Each room’s new, statement furniture art piece, a deep blue armchair and footrest, is bold and contemporary, symbolising Melbourne’s colourful streetscape and laneway artwork. The shape, the curve, subtly contrasts the triangular geometry.

To celebrate Sofitel Melbourne’s refurbishment news, the hotel is offering its special ‘So Cultural’ package, which includes overnight accommodation, breakfast for two in No35 Restaurant and two tickets to a Melbourne Cultural Experience like the Gabrielle Chanel Exhibition at NGV and the Van Gogh exhibition at The Lume Melbourne. Rates start at $375 per night.

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins will also be celebrating Christmas with Art de Noël, an annual tradition for all Sofitel properties. The 2021 theme will be “Joie de Vivre”, conveying Christmas joy through positive, playful and energetic vibes displayed throughout the hotel in the lead up to the holidays, including the property’s take on the Buche de Noel, also known as Yule Log Cake, which guests can enjoy.
