December 2021 marks the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific, which was the first time Australia had felt an imminent threat from an external aggressor. The Pacific War lasted from 7 December 1941 to 2 September 1945, with hundreds of thousands of Australians being involved in the war effort.
Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours specialises in leading Australians to significant battlefields around the world to commemorate Australia’s war history and bring this history to life. In 2022, Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours is offering a range of WW2 in the Pacific tours, including several special 80th anniversary tours.
Historian and founder of Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours, Mat McLachlan, said: “Walking the ground where the Anzacs fought is a way to learn about and connect with their experience, and honour their courage and sacrifice. The Pacific War was characterised by jungle warfare, and the terrain we visit today remains very similar to what the soldiers experienced 80 years ago, and the marks of war – abandoned tanks, crashed planes, bullet holes in rocks, can still be seen. Our tours are led by expert historians who bring the battlefields to life and include special experiences to commemorate and immerse our passengers in the history.”
