Love pink? Love vintage vibes? Literally love the most unique thing on the streets of Sydney?
December 1, 2021 not only sees summer ticking over here in Australia but the delivery of a brand new, unique ride service built around a dreamy 1975 baby pink Mercedes Benz complete with its original interiors, called That Pink Merc.
That Pink Merc is hire-able by the hour, with a driver and takes up to four riders who are encouraged to create their own moment rather than booking pre-defined itineraries, themes and options for their hire. Basically, there are no hard rules other than you get a pink merc, a driver and any add-ons that you want – and the hire is yours for the duration to create any moment you want.
Riders could hire the car for a scenic route lunch drop-off, a supercool wedding car moment, a drive to watch a pretty sunset against the bonnet, a romantic picnic parked up beside the merc, a pretty in pink marriage proposal, a ride to take some pics for the gram, a milestone birthday ride around one’s neighbourhood and a drive through the city just to stop traffic before getting dropped off at a hotel for the night.
All defined by people and what they want, rather than what can be offered.
Add-ons are also available for each booking as an extra surprise or touch point. Current add-ons include a BYO inclusion with use of That Pink Merc’s chic picnic kit and glassware for a back seat toast or two; a gourmet cheese pack, half a dozen boxed #RideTheMoment cupcakes, a posy of florals with a hand-written card, event/wedding ribbons on the front of the car and personalised monogram lettering on the rear window.
All these items are pre-set-, pre-arranged and ready when That Pink Merc and driver arrives at your pickup destination and all book-able online.
“That Pink Merc is all about throwing traditional hire car rules out the window and letting people make up their own moments, exactly as they want them to be” says Katrina Holden who is a respected Northern Beaches based travel writer, retro lifestyle expert and That Pink Merc’s founder.
“We have had so many rules the last two years, we just wanted to remove all layers of restriction and let people create the level of fun, sophistication or style that they want on this experience.”
“If they want to be dropped at the hotel via the scenic route, taken the long way to a cinema date, if they want to park up beside the car for a sunset champagne, if they are eloping somewhere beautiful or if they want to cruise into the regions for the full day of slow travel, the driver and the car are there to make it happen.”
“We literally set no rules, so long as it’s safe and legal and within the time booking allocated – its whatever people want to do when they ride That Pink Merc”.
“Of course, if people come to us and want us to tell them what they should do – we will absolutely help them out with some incredible ideas” says Holden.
