Victorian based AW Bell and Queensland luxury boat builder Riviera Australia have tied to become joint winners of the Manufacturing and Advanced Materials Award at the 59th Australian Export Awards.

An example of Australian ingenuity, AW Bell has been making specialist precision metal parts for more than three generations. Previously supplying the Australian motor industry, the company has reinvented itself to serve the booming aerospace market with customers across North America, Germany, New Zealand and China.

Luxury yacht maker Riviera employs more than 900 people, produces more than 120 luxury vessels a year which are also highly sought-after across the Mediterranean and North America.

Minister Tehan said that he was in awe of all winners this year, who he believed should all be commended for their ability to adapt and excel during a once-in-a-century global pandemic.

“Every business tonight is an exemplar of the Australian spirit, our dedication and ingenuity. Australians never shy away from adversity and their willingness to carry on is an inspiration to us all,” Mr Tehan said.

“Together, these businesses have contributed more than $6.2 billion in export earnings to the Australian economy and employ more than 17,700 people.”

AW Bell CEO Sam Bell said the company was thrilled to be recognised as one of the nation’s leading advanced manufacturers.

“As a third-generation family member, it’s amazing to see where our business is today. We’ve always been motivated by what people tell us we cannot do. We’ve used it as motivation to strive to succeed,” Mr. Bell said.

Riviera owner, Rodney Longhurst said the company is now exporting more than 60 per cent of its builds.

“It’s a big world, and it is a challenge, but we’re a tough Aussie battler having a go. Our luxury boats are amongst the best in the world, standing proudly next to European and American models.”

The annual Australian Export Awards are presented by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), in collaboration with the states and territories.
