SWISS Airbus A330-300SWISS fully supports all the worldwide efforts to minimize the spread of the coronavirus. In line with this commitment, SWISS is to implement the recent decision by the Swiss federal authorities and will, until further notice, only transport passengers on its flights from South Africa to Switzerland who are Swiss or Liechtenstein nationals (or hold a corresponding Swiss or Liechtenstein residence permit) and who will be able to present the immigration authorities on arrival in Switzerland with a valid negative COVID test result. The operation of such flights will also be subject to Swiss government approval.

SWISS fully respects the Swiss authorities’ decision and will be implementing their new provisions accordingly. At the same time, SWISS also wishes to state that, as experienced in the past few months has shown, flight bans are not the best means of preventing the spread of a newly-detected coronavirus variant. The World Health Organization (WHO) is also advising against responding to the latest virus mutation with a travel ban. And individuals will still be able to travel from and to South Africa via other airport hubs.

SWISS flight LX284 from Zurich to Johannesburg will depart tonight at 22:40 as planned. The further LX284 Zurich-Johannesburg flights scheduled over the next few days will also operate as planned until further notice. SWISS’s services to and from South Africa currently consist of seven weekly Zurich-Johannesburg flights. SWISS will be contacting the customers concerned.
