Eurail, the company behind the Eurail and Interrail Passes, launched a new governance structure and appointed new railway representatives. With this move, Eurail wants to accelerate its time to market for product innovation. Additionally, it aims to operate in a more agile way to address customer needs, including easier booking and ticketing solutions for international rail travel. Most importantly, Eurail desires for closer connections with its shareholders, the railway carriers, to benefit from their vast industry expertise and to allow a railway community-driven strategy.
One of the first milestones under the new governance, is the appointment of eight Supervisory Board Directors and several carrier representatives by the shareholders, to participate in future shareholder meetings, Eurail’s ‘Full Assembly’ meetings. Eurail, fully owned by more than 35 European railway carriers, further strengthens established relationship with the industry through welcoming these senior rail executives to its membership community.
“European railway carriers are at the heart of what we do at Eurail, empowering us to create connections for our travellers that leave lasting impressions. Together, we have expanded the Eurail and Interrail Pass network in the past decades to 33 countries. In 2020, we launched our biggest innovation so far – one single mobile Pass, that allows for train travel with railways everywhere in Europe. With our new governance, we are truly prepared for all exciting opportunities that are ahead of us.” says Carlo Boselli, General Manager at Eurail.
European railway and ferry carriers are represented within Eurail’s Full Assembly to contribute to the direction of the company. Members and shareholders meet bi-annually for validation and supervision of the long-term strategy of the company. Executives of eight railway carriers, DB, ÖBB, SBB, Trenitalia, SNCF, SNCB, SJ, ZSSK, are now Directors of the Supervisory Board which cooperates closely with Eurail’s management on the strategic direction of the company and supervises the general course of affairs in the company and its business.
