The New South Wales town of Mudgee has been named the 2021 winner of Australia’s Top Tourism Town, announced by the Hon Dan Tehan, Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment at today’s inaugural Top Tourism Town event.
In these coveted awards, tourism towns from across Australia compete for the honour of being named Australia’s Top Tourism Town (with a population over 5000). Mudgee claimed the Gold Medal, with Queensland’s Noosa claiming Silver and the Bronze going to New Norfolk in Tasmania.
The town of Berrima, located in New South Wales claimed the Gold Medal for the 2021 Small Tourism Town (population under 5000) with Port Fairy in Victoria securing the Silver and Tasmania’s town of Stanley taking Bronze.
Australian Tourism Awards Chair, Daniel Gschwind said these awards are celebrating towns throughout Australia that demonstrate outstanding commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to their destination.
“As we get closer to all interstate borders re-opening and enjoy a renewed focus on domestic tourism, these awards put the spotlight on our tourism communities and the amazing experiences that can be had throughout Australia.” Mr Gschwind said.
“Our tourism industry has faced enormous challenges over the past 18 months, but the awards have provided a welcome reminder to us all of how resilient, strong and inspiring the tourism community is.”
Finalists for Australia’s Top Tourism Town awards were the Gold winners at their state/territory run Top Tourism Town award process.
Mr Gschwind concluded, “All of our finalists can be extremely proud to represent their state or territory in this national competition. The submissions showed what a truly diverse country we live in, with inspiring experiences throughout. Congratulations to the winners and all finalists.”
The Top Tourism Town Awards would not be possible without the generous support of Tourism Australia and Qantas.
