A full line-up of Menorquin semi-displacement vessels is confirmed for NZ delivery, beginning with a 34’ Hardtop sedan arriving late October 2021. Close on its heels is a 42’ Hardtop landing in January 2022, to be followed by a 54’ Hardtop and the flagship 68’ Flybridge later in 2022.

All models have achieved EU Recreational Craft Directive CATEGORY A OCEAN classification. This is only given to self-sufficient boats capable of extended voyages with winds of over gale Force 8 (40 knots +), and significant wave heights above 4 metres. Vessels must meet rigorous standards of stability, buoyancy, and good handling characteristics to qualify.

These modern trawler style launches echo the history and elegance of Menorca’s traditional fishing boats. Manufactured in a modern 11,000 m2 shipyard on the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca, Sasga Yachts utilises state-of-the-art resin-infused hull-moulding to produce a strong, lightweight hull that has a perfect fiberglass to resin ratio, resulting in maximum strength and efficiency, achieving the highest CE A construction rating. Powertrains are twin Volvo Penta diesel inboards on shafts. The harmonious combination of hull design and engine choice gives the ability to run at 20 kts.

A duo of experienced New Zealand businessmen is behind the venture. Seasoned Canterbury yachtsman Ernest Henshaw was inspired to bring the marque to New Zealand after encountering Menorquin’s whilst cruising in the Mediterranean Sea. After witnessing a Menorquin 39 performing in gale conditions, he had the opportunity to go aboard later that day when his Swan 53 was coincidentally berthed next to the same boat. A close inspection of the build quality and interior layout reinforced his initial impressions. “This is the sort of boat for someone who appreciates and understands good boat design and construction.” Says Henshaw.

Well known New Zealand marine industry veteran Bruce McGill joins Henshaw, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing motor yachts in Australasia.  “The Sasga Yachts Menorquin’s semi displacement hull design allows them to glide through the water efficiently with engines half the horsepower of similar sized production mono hulls.” Expands McGill.  “It’s an awesome opportunity for a select few discerning boat buyers to purchase a luxurious, well built vessel that provides sea-keeping abilities, efficiency, and amenities that many others don’t.
