As the opening date for its new hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley draws nearer, IHG Hotels & Resorts and the hotel owner, Pointcorp, are today sharing an important update on the property.

Originally announced to open as Hotel Indigo Brisbane Fortitude Valley, the development has evolved to take on a more luxurious feel than initially anticipated. With an opening date locked in for February 2021, the new build hotel will offer extravagant interior design with premium amenities, a stunning rooftop pool and bar, and an interactive lighting facade that projects vivid displays onto thriving Brunswick Street.

In light of the elevated identity and guest experience, IHG Hotels & Resorts and Pointcorp have made the decision to revisit and elevate the hotel’s positioning into the luxury segment. As a result, the hotel will open under an independent hotel name outside of the IHG Hotels & Resorts brand family, but will still be connected to the IHG system, reservations, marketing and loyalty program. The new name will be revealed early next week.

The transition is an exciting opportunity for the hotel to open its doors this summer to welcome local and interstate visitors as borders reopen. It will open with the same high-quality service, safety and assurance you would expect from an IHG hotel, with a unique, premium experience in the heart of Brisbane’s cultural hub.

Chris Vitale, Director at Pointcorp commented: “Pointcorp has made a significant investment in the development of our Fortitude Valley property which has seen it evolve from a boutique upscale concept to a distinctive, high-end, luxury product, as it has progressed. That’s why we have made the decision, together with IHG, to keep to our planned opening timelines and reposition the hotel under an independent name and personality, but part of the powerful IHG system. We are so excited to open this hotel as a truly spectacular destination in the heart of the Burnswick Street precinct.”

Leanne Harwood, Managing Director – Australasia & Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts said: “We are excited to see the direction the Pointcorp team has taken this property, with a luxury offering that takes it beyond what we had envisaged when we signed it as a Hotel Indigo four years ago. With that in mind, we knew we had to remain true to Hotel Indigo’s values and personality, and give this great hotel a different identity that perfectly fits its unique, luxury personality. The owner is almost ready to unwrap the hotel name, but I do love a teaser and you’ll have to wait a little longer for the big reveal.”

“Hotel Indigo continues to grow rapidly across our market, with the first to open in Adelaide in March, and many more to come in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland”, she added.

The Hotel Indigo brand has gone from strength to strength over the years, with 126 open globally and another 99 in the pipeline. In Australasia, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets will open in March 2021, the first to open in this market, with more to come in destinations including Melbourne and Auckland, as well as Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre, which was announced earlier this week. IHG hopes to announce some more Hotel Indigo signings imminently.

IHG currently has 56 hotels operating under five brands in Australasia, including: InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, voco and Holiday Inn Express, with another 34 in the pipeline.
