Continuing the trend by complying with regulations, another small cruise ship is getting cruising in Australia with APT’s Caledonian Sky set to kick off with a 9 day Cape York and the Great Barrier Reef Expedition with departures in April and May 2021 and in Western Australia in September 2021.
The Queensland cruises will Including the remote islands of the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, Caledonian Sky will cruise to Thursday Island and Cape York, with a full day exploring Lizard Island, with the WA cruise including a tour of WA’s Wildflower Way before joining the vessel in Geraldton and sailing to Broome, with in August a reverse programme from Broome to Perth.
Currently laid up in the Philippines, Caledonian Sky, which is not Australian flagged, but APT has a stake Noble Caledonia, which owns Caledonian Sky in addition to Island Sky and Hebridean Sky, remained in Australia for some time after the cruise ship ban and other ships being rather unceremoniously kicked out, with her owners, reportedly reaching an agreement with the Australian Government.
Caledonian Sky originally Renaissance VI , was originally one of eight “Renaissance” class yacht-like ships between 1989 and 1998 for the now defunct Renaissance Cruise Lines, built in Italy, to carry around 100 passengers, using Roman numerals as part of their names, Renaissance I through Renaissance VIII, with the much larger Renaissance ships using the letter R and numbers 1 to 8.
