The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced plans to conduct its annual full-scale emergency exercise on Wednesday, October 21st in partnership with the California National Guard 95th Civil Support Team. The exercise will test response and recovery efforts following a simulated terrorist attack involving chemical weapons, utilizing the Airport’s Boeing 767 widebody training aircraft with a limited number of volunteers role-playing as passengers. The exercise will include the coordination of a dozen different agencies, including Airport staff, the San Francisco Fire Department Airport Division, the San Francisco Police Department Airport Bureau, mutual aid units from San Mateo County, and state and federal agencies. Although federal regulations require U.S. airports to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise every three years, SFO conducts this exercise annually to ensure the highest level of readiness. The Airport has limited in-person training and exercises since the public health emergency was declared; we have designed this exercise to comply with all COVID-19 health regulations and best practices.

Media are invited to cover the exercise, including interview opportunities.
