Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort will welcome guests into the vibrant world of local art and design when it opens next month, by showcasing original works by some of Phuket’s brightest creative talents. This brand new international resort, which is scheduled to soft-open on 1st October 2020, has formed a partnership with Artslonga, an acclaimed designer who specialises in eye-catching artworks, murals, prints and sculptures that reflect Phuket’s Peranakan heritage. It has also harnessed the skill and vision of young graduates from Silapakorn University, who were invited to paint the walls with authentic designs.
The result is that the hotel feels like a living gallery – the grand home of a global traveller who has collated an amazing array of exquisite artworks and wants to show them off to the world. The lobby area feels like an enchanting flower garden, providing a warm welcome to every visitor. Then, as guests stroll through the resort, they will be able to admire a collection of almost 70 paintings and sculptures. Ornamental vases are displayed in the corridors of each floor, reflecting the traditional style of a Phuket home, and images of classical ceramics adorn the restaurants.
Artslonga has already been commissioned for a series of prestigious art projects, including ICONSIAM, the landmark riverside development in Bangkok. She was joined by 15 up-and-coming Thai artists, all of whom have recently graduated with Master’s degrees. One of the students, Supim Woratat, received the Gold Medal in the 36th Bualuang Painting Exhibition for her piece, “Chinese Painting Style Shelves”.
Phuket’s Peranakan culture was created by the arrival of Chinese immigrants, predominantly of Hokkien ancestry, who originally came to work in the island’s tin mining industry. They retained their unique traditions, which are reflected in the local art and architecture – especially in the elegant shophouses of Phuket’s Old Town. Today, it is estimated that approximately 70 percent of Phuket’s population has Peranakan roots.
Nestled in the heart of North Patong, just steps from the sandy beach, Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort features 600 contemporary rooms and suites, including Pool Access options and colourful Kids’ Rooms, plus three outdoor pools, five restaurants and bars including a beach club, fitness centre, kid’s club, playground and extensive event space, making it a great choice for couples, friends, families and groups.
Guests can discover the resort’s timeless blend of international hospitality and local art and culture from 1st October 2020.
