To say 2020 has been a drag, would be something of an understatement. But with the Maldives, one of the world’s most fabled tourist destinations, recently reopening its borders and travellers beginning to dust off those long-dormant suitcases, CROSSROADS Maldives is looking to banish the blues and celebrate its milestone first anniversary with an exclusive year-end deal, valid for bookings until 25 September only. From now through to 20 December 2020, global tourists can escape to the award-winning SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and stay in style with rates from USD200 net and USD300 net per night per room respectively (up to 40 percent of standard prices). A raft of additional enticing incentives includes complimentary breakfast throughout the stay, one-time dinner for two, guaranteed room upgrades (not applicable to Hard Rock Hotel Maldives’ Rock Royalty & Rock Star Villas) and free 24-hour cancellations. Longer-term guests, meanwhile, can take advantage of USD200 in resort credit for stays of at least five nights, while those fortunate enough to unwind at CROSSROADS Maldives for a week or longer receive a complimentary return transfer for up to two people, which usually costs USD148. The booking period runs from now until 25 September 2020, so travellers who want to experience an unparalleled vacation in what would usually be one of the world’s most in-demand destinations should act fast.

“The Maldives has welcomed international guests back to CROSSROADS Maldives since July,” says Dirk De Cuyper, CEO of S Hotels & Resorts (SHR), the hospitality and management firm behind the multi-island, integrated leisure destination. “This promotion is our way of not only celebrating our first year but also a chance for us to give something back to guests who are undoubtedly looking forward to a much-needed vacation.”

Since its grand opening in September 2019, which was attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, CROSSROADS Maldives quickly established a reputation as the Indian Ocean’s premier multi-island, integrated leisure destination with showcase event calendars, such as the Rockin’ Festive Season at Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and SAiiSational Festive Season at SAii Lagoon Maldives.

Even in the face of the global pandemic, CROSSROADS Maldives has witnessed an action-packed maiden year. With the beaches absent of holidaymakers, in late March, team members from SAii Lagoon Maldives spotted some unfamiliar footprints along the resort’s main beach. After a quick search, a pregnant Olive Ridley sea turtle was found nesting in on the shore — the first recorded sighting of this species nesting in the Maldives. The decline of tourist arrivals also led to an increase in sightings of other native marine species including hawksbill sea turtles, eagle rays and stingrays.

Since the turn of the year, CROSSROADS has also racked up a number of awards. SAii Lagoon Maldives and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives picked up the coveted Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards and also tasted success with three Luxury Lifestyle Awards 2020.

Last month, meanwhile, just weeks after reopening to visitors, CROSSROADS Maldives launched its exclusive ‘Wedding in Paradise’ promotion — available until 31 May 2021 — featuring an array of customisable island buyout packages that include dining, transfers, bonding activities and more, from just USD35,000 net a night.

The Maldives archipelago reopened to international visitors on 15 July 2020 and many airlines have now resumed flights to Malé, offering connections to and from destinations such as Doha, Dubai, Colombo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, Istanbul, Zurich and Moscow. Inbound travellers currently receive a free 30-day tourist visa upon arrival in the country and, unlike other global destinations that have recently reopened, only requires presentation of a negative COVID-19 test result without mandatory quarantine or testing on arrival.

Moreover, CROSSROADS Maldives is committed to providing its guests with an enhanced hygiene and safety programme in line with guidelines from the World Health Organisation and local and international tourism and health authorities. The CROSSROADS Safe, Healthy Relax Manifest allows guests to enjoy unforgettable experiences curated in a safe environment. As part of the manifest, both SAii Lagoon Maldives and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives, has partnered with the largest medical facility to offer PCR tests to departing guests 72 hours prior to departure. The tests, carried out by medical teams, can be undergone at either The Marina at CROSSROADS or from the comfort of guests’ villas.
