Spread the love
There’s no doubt that the joy music brings to people around the world, is now more important than ever.

For this reason, the recent announcement of the nominees for the 2020 Music Cities Awards, along with that of the awards being streamed virtually this year for those at home to watch, has come at such a crucial time.
The Music Cities Awards will take place virtually on 23rd September 2020, with Memphis Tourism named official nominees in two separate categories. Memphis, being the melting pot of the world when it comes to music has fittingly been nominated for both the ‘Best Use of Music to Drive Tourism,’ and ‘Best Global Music Office,’ categories.
The global competition that is the Music Cities Awards, is designed to acknowledge and reward the most outstanding applications of music for economic, social and cultural development in cities and places around the world. There are a total of 9 Music Cities Awards categories, that span everything from small to large city initiatives, tourism, music offices and night time economy – to name a few.
This year, the awards will also welcome a prestigious jury that will include names such as Al Bell, Former Chairman & Owner of Stax Records, Sandra Wall of the UNESCO City of Music Municipality of Norrkoping (Sweden), and Dr. Lee Dong-yeun, Professor at Korea National University of Arts and Organiser of the Global Music City Seoul.
Along with Memphis Tourism being nominated, there was also some welcome news for Australia, with our very own state of Victoria being named a nominee for the ‘Best Global Music Office.’ Something very positive during this time for both the city of Memphis and Melbourne alike.
To further add, and continue on with the amazing Levitt Shell Virtual Concert Series taking place in Memphis over the weekend, the iconic Stax Museum of American Soul Music will also host their very own virtual gig – live. Grammy Award Winning Artist, Kirk Whalum, will perform live from the Stax Museum on Monday, 7th September, 2020 at 8am (AEST). Those at home will be able to watch on at the following link.
Although we are unable to travel Memphis during this time to take in the city’s world-renowned music scene, the city will be waiting with opens arms when the time is right to travel internationally again. For further information about the city of Memphis and its world renowned music scene, visit: https://www.memphistravel.com/
